For matching, stay within the same speaker family as your front three when possible, so the sound field is tonally consistent. For type, direct-firing bookshelf-style surrounds work well in most rooms; bi-pole and dipole surrounds spread sound more diffusely and can be a better fit for rooms with off-center seating.
